In 1959, IPM Sri Lanka was founded with the objective of developing the profession of Personnel Management. Subsequently the Institute was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976.
With the small beginnings in 1959 the Institute has developed to be the leading Human Resource authority in Sri Lanka. The Institute has contributed significantly to develop and nurture the Human Resource Management profession in the country.
The Institute whilst catering to needs of the Membership specially in regard to the upgrading of their knowledge and skills, has conducted a wide range of professional courses which include the prestigious National Diploma in Human Resource Management which has now being upgraded to 'Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management' and thereby train quality HR professionals required by the country.
Although the years have brought many changes in the profession, the Institute is firmly committed to maintain high standards in the profession of Human Resource Management and development.
The institute is governed by an elected Council headed by the President. Under the direction of the Council, the functions and activities of the institute are performed by the respective standing committees, and the Secretariat and the Business School which are manned by permanent staff.
IPM Sri Lanka is a member of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management through which the Institute is affiliated to the World Federation on Personnel Management Associations.
